    Cubs Quade's Cubs

Will Carroll is hearing from sources that Mike Quade is going to have his interim tag removed and will be named the Cubs' next manager.
Triple-A Iowa skipper Ryne Sandberg is going to promoted to the position of Cubs bench coach, according to Carroll, and will probably serve as a kind of successor to Quade. The 53-year-old former third base coach led the Cubs to an impressive 24-13 record down the stretch. Carroll, formerly of Baseball Prospectus, says an official announcement could be made by next week.
I must say I have no problem with this. If Quade struggles, Sandberg is right there to take over. It's been a while since I have said this but good move for the Cubs. Once this is over, they can focus on getting this team closer to the top half of the Central. They have a lot of work to do.

I've read elsewhere that this could be false.

But I wouldn't mind this arrangement at all.

Yeah I am reading reports too that say say Sandberg doesn't want to be second fiddle anymore but if he can't find a job elsewhere, I don't see why he wouldn't want to show his stuff at the MLB level as a bench coach. No more bus rides for Ryne.

    Re: Quade's Cubs

Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse reports that the Cubs have named Mike Quade as their next manager.
Quade will get a two-year deal with an option for 2013. The 53-year-old former third base coach led the Cubs to an impressive 24-13 run down the stretch this season and won over support from many of Chicago's players. It's not yet clear if Ryne Sandberg will have a role on Quade's staff or whether he will remain in his post as manager with Triple-A Iowa. Sandberg did interview for a few other managerial openings this fall.
Sandberg has come out and said he will look for a job with another organization. Hope the Cubs made the right choice because Sandberg is pissed.

Quade deserved the chance, and if Sandberg is pissed, so be it. He can go elsewhere, if anyone is willing to hire him as manager.

I would be willing to hire him. Mets, Pirates and Blue Jays seem interested. If I'm the Pirates, **** yeah.

But if you are Sandberg, do you want any of those jobs?

Possibly Toronto, but I would say **** no to Pittsburgh and New York.

Way to go, Cubbies. You've managed to piss off one of your legends. Nice one.

So they were supposed to hire him because of what he did as a player?

    Re: Quade's Cubs

The Cubs have hired former Nationals third base coach Pat Listach to be new manager Mike Quade's bench coach.
Listach interviewed for a couple of managerial openings this fall but never did land a head gig. When the Cubs came calling and offered him a spot alongside Quade, he pounced. Listach managed in the Cubs' minor league system during the mid-2000s and turned in a 253-221 record over four seasons. He is still well respected by Chicago's front office for that run.
Didn't know Listach had that many ties to Chicago but this seems like a good fit. Wonder who the Nationals will get to replace him.

This is a good move for the Cubs. Listach knows a lot of the young guys, having managed them in the Cubs' system. They should be a better team with him on the bench.

    Re: Quade's Cubs

As to Sandberg, maybe he could be the Cubs' 3B coach? He could be very good at that, and be the heir-apparent to Quade.

    Re: Quade's Cubs

Sandberg has already said he is not coming back to the Cubs organization and will find a job somewhere else. He should have no problem doing so.
