Cubs Cubs Send Wuertz To Oakland

Athletics acquired RHP Michael Wuertz from the Cubs for outfielder Richie Robnett and infielder Justin Sellers.
The A's get a solid reliever for two prospects they're not likely to miss. Wuertz, 30, will remind A's fans of Kiko Calero with the way he constantly uses his slider. He's managed to stay healthy so far, and he should prove to be pretty useful in the sixth and seventh innings as part of a bullpen also set to include Joey Devine, Brad Ziegler, Russ Springer, Jerry Blevins and Santiago Casilla.
A's have really strengthened a bullpen that was already pretty damn good in the first place. I don't get what the Cubs are doing. They trade for Heilman and then get rid of Wuertz. I know they play different roles but still seems odd to me. Cubs have traded Hill and Wuertz today and got very little in return.

I like this move for the A's, but as you said, it doesn't make a lot of sense for the Cubs. A head-scratcher, IMO.

Cubs are still trying to position themselves to make another run at Peavy?

cant get much for a guy who has completely fallen off the map in terms of control, and has no options left. wuertz was also out of options and was a decent reliever. The cubs have plenty of relievers in their farm system who has as good of stuff as he does.

Relievers in their farm system and quality big league relievers are two different things.

true, but they also have a pretty stocked bullpen right now. Kevin Gregg, Marmol, Smardzija, Kevin Hart, Chad Gaudin, and Heilman now. And also Sean Marshall and Luis Vizcaino. Thats quite a full bullpen.

I am just confused by the Heilman trade I guess. Seems like a move backward to let Wuertz go for Heilman. To let Wuertz go for peanuts is also troubling to me.
