"The Cubs appear close to clearing a major hurdle in their efforts to sign switch-hitting outfielder Milton Bradley. Sources confirmed Tuesday night that the Cubs and Rockies are close to a trade that will send pitcher Jason Marquis and most of his $9.875 million contract to Colorado for embattled reliever Luis Vizcaino. The deal, which is not expected to be announced before next week, would include at least $875,000 in cash going to the Rockies. Balanced against the guaranteed $4 million remaining on Vizcaino's contract, that would allow the Cubs to shed $5 million of Marquis' 2009 salary -- about what the Cubs hoped to save in trading the final year of Marquis' three-year, $21 million ..."
Seems like the Cubs like Bradley over Abreu. Bradley will help play RF and be a big bat off the bench. Piniella really didn't care for Fukudome too much so it will be interesting to see what exactly his role will be in Lou's lineup. The Cubs will get rid of one financial mess, gain a slightly lesser one and then add a hot head. Brilliant!
