Extra bases: Carlos Zambrano was able to throw in his bullpen session on Monday and did not experience any problems with his left big toe, which he sprained on Saturday. Zambrano is expected to make his next start Friday against the New York Yankees. He does have his big toe taped to the one next to it to protect it. ... First-round draft pick Mark Pawelek of Springville (Utah) High School is expected in Chicago on Tuesday, and could throw for the team on Wednesday on the side. ... Pitcher Scott Williamson, who is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery in Arizona at the Cubs' extended Spring Training facility, is throwing in the bullpen and making progress. ... Minor League right-hander Angel Guzman is not ready to throw in a game yet. He's still sidelined with a sore right forearm.

Minor matters: Phil Norton gave up five runs on eight hits over five innings in Triple-A Iowa's 7-1 loss to Nashville on Sunday. Micah Hoffpauir was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and scored the only run. ... West Tenn's game against Mississippi on Sunday was postponed by rain. ... Daytona swept a doubleheader against Palm Beach. J.R. Mathes picked up the win in the first game, giving up one run on four hits over six innings as Daytona won, 3-1. In the second game, reliever Anderson Tavares pitched five shutout innings in the 4-0 win. ... Luis Montanez went 1-for-3 with a solo homer in Peoria's 3-1 loss to Beloit.
