    Cubs Soriano out again...

Soriano breaks his left hand tonight against the Braves. He was hit by a pitch by Bennett.

    Soriano is out 6 weeks.

neither right away. hoffpaur will come up. he was coming back up this weekend anyways. felix is struggling in the minors, and Murton is pretty redundant (see, reed johnson, derosa for redundancy). They may call up murton when they need a designated hitter coming up for the weekend.

Murton is a pretty good defensive outfielder. Pie is looking better at the plate and has not let his problems affect his defense. Hoffpaur doesn't play the outfield well enough to do more than spot-duty there.

This guy just seems like he can't catch a break except on his finger. Hope he is able to heel quickly as he was starting to heat it up and playing well defensively for the Cubbies.

Tough break for the Cubs. The Cards just loss the best hitter and their best pitcher so the Cubs had a great shot to pull away. This hurts that chance a bit now.

murton is average at best in the outfield. hes no better than soriano, thats for sure, and derosa will be able to play the position sufficiently well. Theres really no reason for murton to be called up with the plethora of quality OF's on the cubs roster already (derosa, johnson, edmonds, fukodome). Hoffpaur can play the OF. So can Patterson if he has to.

patterson was the one called up, BTW.

at times. did you ever see those Dusty's Dice? Its sounding like Lou is going to be doing a lot of that in the next few weeks. he sounded positively giddy about all the lineups he can come up with.

Looks like the Cubs are comfortable with using Eric Patterson, and I can't blame them. He gives us some good speed as well as a durable left handed bat. Matt Murton has already proven himself in the Major Leagues and Micah Hoffpauir hits a ton, but I guess it came down to the speed and the left handedness of Eric Patterson.

well, they can use Micah (and Patterson) at a couple of different positions while they use position players (like Ramirez and Lee) as DH's in the next two weeks.

murton's problem is he can play one position effective: left. he cant play right effectively at the major league level (considering Fukodome is locked in at right)
