Prime-time start Koronka's to win
June 6, 2005

SAN DIEGO -- Cubs rookie left-hander John Koronka might have a front-row ticket to next weekend's Boston Red Sox series hanging in the balance when he starts tonight at Wrigley Field against the Toronto Blue Jays.

If he wins in authoritative fashion, Koronka would be in line to start next Sunday night in front of a national ESPN audience in the finale of the Cubs-Red Sox series. That certainly would be a heady experience for a 24-year-old who has toiled until now in the minor leagues.

If he flops against the Blue Jays, the Cubs might have to consider alternatives. One would be going to a rotation against the Red Sox of Greg Maddux on Friday, Carlos Zambrano on Saturday and Glendon Rusch on Sunday.

It will be interesting to see how he does tonight. I have confidence in him, but if he doesn't do good I like the idea of not pitching him against Boston.
