Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee was scratched from Thursday's lineup because of a sore right knee he injured when he fouled a ball off it. Lee fouled a ball off his knee in the fifth inning Wednesday and fell to the ground. He stayed in the game and grounded out in that at-bat. Lee also ignited a game-ending 3-6-1 double play in the Cubs' 3-2 win over the Houston Astros.
Lee was initially batting third in Thursday's lineup, but was replaced by Daryle Ward at first base. Cubs manager Lou Piniella said Lee couldn't run during batting practice.
Lee was .333 (8-for-24) in his last six games with a homer, two doubles, and two RBIs.
