-This whole Mets trade thing is ridiculous. Manny is still one of the elite hitters in the game, and they're trading him for Outfield Mark Bellhorn (who can field...and hit.) and a guy named "Aubrey".

-Supposedly Schilling and Ramirez got in a big argument and had to be seperated by Ortiz after Manny sat out on Wednesday after being asked to play.

-Tommorow's starter could be Lenny Dinardo, Jeremi Gonzalez, or they could call up Papelbon. That gives me a LOT of hope...

And they traded Stern/Shoppach for Larry freaking Bigbie.

Saturday, July 30, 1:25 p.m. ET: Larry Bigbie wasn't in Colorado for long. Dan O'Dowd was able to flip him to the Red Sox for Rule 5 pick Adam Stern and prospect Kelly Shoppach, who replaces J.D. Closser as catcher of the always-moving future. Colorado took Bigbie over offers from other teams knowing that he was "flippable." Losing out on Eric Byrnes now makes Walt Jocketty work a bit harder. The Cards are thinking big with their acquisition, asking about Adam Dunn and Brian Giles.

I read it on another forum I've been on as well. Not anything official, but even my mother heard it from the media I'm guessing.

According to the Providence Journal, Larry Bigbie will be sent from Colorado to Boston for catcher Kelly Shoppach and Rule-5 outfielder Adam Stern.
As a temporary replacement for Trot Nixon and then a reserve outfielder, we suppose Bigbie wouldn't be so bad. Still, just like with the Tony Graffanino acquisition, it's disappointing that Boston can't do better. If the Red Sox want to go back to the World Series, they shouldn't be settling for mediocrities. Shoppach would be a nice pickup for the Rockies. It's hard to imagine a better situation for him, as he could start immediately and Coors Field would help with the breaking balls he has difficulty making contact with. The Rockies are likely looking at Stern as a long-term reserve.
