    Red Sox Oswalt or Jackson

The rumor mill is saying the Red Sox have offers out on both Oswalt and Jackson and on one year deals. My question is, who would you prefer for one year? Oswalt comes with an injury risk and Jackson comes with the risk of more inconsistency. My choice would be Oswalt because when healthy, he's a better pitcher than Jackson. Oswalt still has that nasty changeup that is a better pitch than any of Jackson's. If this were a multi-year deal, it would be Jackson but on a one year deal I'll take Oswalt.

Oswalt, He has yet to have that one year that every pitcher seems to have where they find that magic again for a last hurrah.

And I've never cared much for Jackson....

Since we can close the book on the Oswalt era in Philly, I just wanted to say the 2011 Phillies = absolute fucking failures. How can you have Halladay, Lee, Hamels, and Oswalt and still not make it out of the first round of the playoffs?

Easily but you would just call it "bending over"

Ryan Howard conveniently tearing his Achilles running out of the batter's box on the final play of the NLDS pretty much symbolized the Phillies rolling over for the Cards. Where was that injury from him when I needed it two years ago?

I'd go as far as to say that if it weren't for Broxton and his issues, the Phillies would be the biggest playoff chokers since the 1990's Buffalo Bills.

    Re: Oswalt or Jackson

With Prince Fielder signed, sealed and delivered to Detroit, agent Scott Boras can now give his undivided attention to Edwin Jackson, the top free agent left on the market along with fellow righthander Roy Oswalt.

While Oswalt is believed to have lowered his demands to a one-year deal, Jackson claims to have three or four multi-year offers, Peter Gammons tweets Monday.

FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal tweeted Saturday that Jackson has multiple offers for three-year deals, should he and Boras decide to go that route. The other option is to take a one-year contract and return to the open market a year from now with the hopes of cashing in then.

The Red Sox need an innings-eater because John Lackey will miss the entire 2012 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Jackson fits that bill, having logged no fewer than 199 2/3 innings in any of the past three seasons despite pitching for four teams during that span.
I certainly believe some teams would offer him a 3 year deal, but at a reasonable price. But he's a 1 year guy, I mean just look at his track record.. since 2006, he's been dealt 6 times. And rolled up in that time frame is an allstar appearance, a no hitter, several years near or over 200 innings logged, and an ERA under 4. I've always wondered if he's some kind of cancer that doesn't get more publicity. He's inconsistent, sure, but so much so that he's on a new team every season? Or multiple new teams every season?
