It was really less of a trade than an auction like in FA, since the market for Adrian Gonzalez was limited to a very short list of teams that could afford to re-sign him to a monster extension.

Even the Padres didn't try to get a lot from the Cubs. They have a list of approved players that they can pick from. Simple as that. Not to mention if Theo had sat home for the year the Red Sox would be vulnerable to front office poaching by Theo. He could bring anyone he wanted with him. Part of the deal with the Padres is the Cubs can only bring Hoyer and McLeod. Part of the deal is future protection. The Red Sox will have that as well. Why they risked losing it is beyond me. Though I will be curious to hear who, if anyone, is coming with Theo to Chicago.

DMB, not true anyone... Go look at the FL assistant they've denied permission 8 times on...

If you think Boston would let Theo walk away your crazy.... Blame the Cubs... Had they just given up a couple good prospects would be a non-issue... They just got greedy and now it's stalling

An everyone knows despite the title they are paying theo to be the de facto GM so don't kid yourself

Yeah, they should have just given up whatever Boston wanted, those greedy bastards! No point in being reasonable! The de facto shit has got to stop!! I'm getting way too drunk from this drinking game!

In conclusion, because this thread has gone on way further than anyone could have predicted, he's a GM. In the end he either gets lucky or doesn't. On paper the cubs have had a team that should have won for a few years. Especially when they signed the players. But there is no chemistry. He may as well blow the whole thing up and start over. Keep Starlin, but ship the rest, including Aramis because I feel he can get decent value.

Theo not a GM and Aramis is a FA.

Precedent was set for Ozzie... Theo > Ozzie... Castro or taking lackey was absurd but 2 prospects is very reasonable given the precedent

How many times do I have to point out that the manager is not the same as the general manager before you at least give me a response explaining why this is not the case?

LTR, start another drinking game. Everytime CJ says precedent was set with Ozzie and then ignores the ensuing response of "GM =/= manager" take a drink.

I'm so glad this is nearly over so I don't ever have to debate a thing with CJ again. It's seriously like arguing with a wall.

The last thing I have to say to you is: Yep, it was the Cubs being greedy. Not the good guys. Not the smart, high and mighty Red Sox.
