In what world is that a similar situation?

Plus, we've already been through this. Those top ten prospects aren't top ten prospects in most organizations.

Why the hell would Theo go there if he was giving up any specs worth a damn? That makes no sense. He's not going back to the Sox and nothing of real value will be sent to the Red Sox. Book it.

He'll be President of Baseball Operations or something like that. But that doesn't mean he won't be making decisions on player personnel as he has done as a GM. The Cubs aren't paying him $15 million to be a figurehead.

I just don't think its a big deal for the Cubs to give up your best prospects cause (1) they aren't that great, (2) you aren't winning for 5-6 years anyways (3) Theo is more valuable than them
The Cubs system was ranked higher than the Red Sox system and no, Theo is not worth more than prospects.

Of course he will be making baseball decisions as that's his job but he wants to be President to take the pressure of being a GM off of him.

He'd be the GM as much as Sandy Alderson was the GM in San Diego above Kevin Towers.

I'm sure Trendy Bastard anticipates Epstein to be the Cubs' de facto GM, despite the pretense that it's not a lateral move. The Cubs aren't paying Epstein for him to be a suit like Larry Lucchino or Larry Baer.

Mofo, why do you assume upper-execs like Larry Lucchino or Larry Baer don't get paid high salary?

Whatever you want to believe, mofo. No one is stopping you. They're paying Epstein to take over all baseball operations and that involves getting a damn good GM. Write de facto one more time. I'm starting a drinking game.

I'm sure they do get paid high salaries. That's the point. The Cubs are giving Epstein a higher salary and a shiny new title so they can spin the hire as a non-lateral move for compensation purposes, even though he'll still be, in essense, the GM.
