    Red Sox The Ortiz Situation

According to Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston, the Red Sox are prepared to exercise David Ortiz's $12.5 million option for 2011.
Ortiz told reporters in July that he's hoping to ink a multi-year extension with the Sox, but the interest on that remains one-sided. Bringing the big man back for one more year, however, does make sense. He's hit .262/.365/.528 with 28 homers and 87 RBI in 443 at-bats this season and is an important presence in the middle of Boston's lineup. Big Papi turns 35 in November.
I would definitely pick up this option but no way do I give him an extension of any kind. If Ortiz wants to play after that, it should be for one year deals only. To be completely honest, I would try to sign Ortiz to a lesser deal if it's a team option.

Not only does he make sense on the baseball side of things, but also off the field as well.
He is a main part of the marketing side of the team. Fans wouldn't be pleased if "Big Papi" wasn't there to hit dingers at Fenway.

Boston sells out no matter what. Don't sign anyone if they suck.
