No one is rewriting history about the '04 team, simply stating fact. Without Epstein, it doesn't happen. Esptein was the genius behind that squad. Epstein was the brains behind signing Ortiz, getting Schilling, trading beloved Nomar in midseason and getting Orlando Cabrera. Lets not forget the Keith Foulke signing. Where were the Red Sox before they got a real closer? Exactly. Epstein built the winner in '04 even if a few pieces were in place before he got there. History shows this. No one needs to rewrite it. Epstein is the brains behind bringing Boston a title twice.

Again, he added the finishing touches but that team was built for the most part. He tried to get rid of manny, no Manny no Championship. He is a grat GM but he's getting too much credit for the '04 team that was already 90% in place.

By my count (excluding guys only here in 2003), he was directly responsible for 14 of the 25 guys on the roster so he only didn't compile 44% of the roster and not 90% like you claim, and guys he got like Dave Roberts, Orlando Cabrera, and Keith Foulke (thanks bwitty forgot him) were crucial to the ALCS and WS win.

He's obviously not getting the credit because you fail to give it to him. 90%? What a total crock of shit as cjkalt has now clearly pointed out beyond the shadow of a doubt!! Good post, it was more than I thought but he did inherit alot of good players. he did start w/ a good core that he inherited, it was very different than the '07 team he put together.
