considering the A's are 18 - 8 in their last 26 games (3rd best record during that time), I don't think so. Why don't you do some checking?

You're right I should do some checking. So I did. And seeing how, according to you, we should just discount all wins against last-place and second-to-last place teams: the A's wins against the Giants, Mariners, Mets, Phillies, Blue Jays and Devil Rays don't really mean much. So the remaining games againts the Nationals and Braves the A's only went 2-4 so we should be unimpressed with the A's recent sucess, right Prov?

But unlike you I think a win is a win, so I say congrats to the A's Keep it rolling!

right, a win is a win, which is why if the Sox beat a little league team, it'd all be the same to you

if you've seen any of my other sox related posts, they're made in jest, which was the case when I said "wow, they beat the dreads and the buckos"...they should beat those teams though, they were a 2nd place, now a 1st place team...difference is the A's were in last place so in their case any wins they got were not expected.

Thank You. Please PM me when the Sox play a Little League team. I can't wait to gloss them in this forum when they win, and you can criticize me when I do. Okay, Prov?

the point is the sox are expected to win, just as the yanks are expected to win, so when they beat scrubby last place type teams, it shouldn't be a big deal...that's what they should do and that's why they spend all that money. When this year's A's win 18 of their last 26 against any teams, it is news because up until this weekend they were a last place team and expected to lose. That was the point.

Fair point. I disagree. You should never take winning for granted.

I agree...that's probably why the Sox and Yanks lost some of those games earlier in the year (taking teams for granted and also because no one wins every single game).

Same syndrome as the Sox pen. Now it's 12-8.

All this shows is that Theo will need to make a move at the deadline for a decent pen arm. I think Timlin's fatigued and Foulke still has issues.

Yea, Foulke's ERA was over 5 before tonight

Beane must have combined his mystical powers with Oakland nation and put a hex on Giambi and Foulke.

They decided to win off of Wake's great performance and back-to-back HRs by Mirabelli and Bellhorn. At least they didn't get swept.

oh, and did you read what Foulke said after the game? I hope he gets ripped for it because I would have been extremely offended as a Sox fan...he was talking about the fans and their right to boo him. He said oh, I won't be inviting them to my World Series party and then said "I don't care what Johnny from Burger King thinks..." (implying that most Saux fans are working at fast food joints and such, I just thought it was insulting and classless on his part.
