    Red Sox Beckett Hurt

The Red Sox confirmed that Josh Beckett suffered a strained oblique while throwing Friday and won't start before Game 3 of the ALDS.
Jon Lester and Daisuke Matsuzaka will start the first two games versus the Angels. Manager Terry Francona indicated that he was confident that Beckett would be able to go Sunday. There was some thought to using him in Game 2 on Friday.
Josh Beckett wasn't himself this season and it looks like he won't be himself this postseason either. Beckett had a 4.03 ERA while battling injuries all year long. This oblique won't just heal up in a few days. He will get a shot and go from there. Maybe Schilling will tell him to suck it up and show him the bloody sock.

Beckett did not have his best stuff tonight. He did not miss many bats.

    Re: Beckett Hurt

Red Sox team officials revealed Saturday that Josh Beckett received an anti-inflammatory injection during the final week of the regular season.
Watching Beckett's Game 2 performance, it was clear that something was off and that he needed a shot of that kind indicates to us that his oblique injury is fairly severe. He's going to pitch through the pain as long as the Red Sox are alive, but this is an issue that has to be addressed, possibly with surgery, in the offseason.
Definitely bad news for Saux fans. Wakefield might have to go twice this series now if it goes that far.
