Rosenthal:

The Pirates' prices remain high on outfielders Jason Bay and Xavier Nady and lefty reliever Damaso Marte, according to rival executives. The Pirates' position is that they can trade all three of those players before July 31, during the offseason or next July. Some teams, however, are skeptical that the Pirates would offer Marte arbitration (after declining his $6 million option) to preserve their rights to draft-pick compensation. The Red Sox are among the teams interested in Marte . . .

To give a little background on Marte:

vs LH: 245/298/340
vs RH: 202/266/281

5.89 ERA on the road, but that's with a .217 BAA.

543 OPS with RISP, 590 close and late.

K/BB of 3.14 this year, third-highest mark in his career. K/9 of 8.87, second-lowest of his career. 2.82 BB/9 is also the second-lowest of his career.

0.87 G/F ratio, career of 0.88.

.281 BABIP so far this season. His LD rate has jumped from last season (20.7 from 13), but 13 was probably a fluke (career average of 21).

I can't imagine the Pirates giving him up for cheap. I'd think that trade discussion begins with Masterson and Lowrie.
