Red Sox Sox possibly interested in Teixeira?

During the last Sunday Night Baseball telecast on ESPN, Peter Gammons reported that the Braves offered Teixeira to the Boston Red Sox for Kevin Youkilis and Hansen. The Red Sox said no because Youkilis has been on the team for a few years and wouldn't make sense to get rid of a productive first baseman who is a clubhouse favorite.

I am a big fan of Teixeira, but if you trade for him, I think you are looking at 8/$160M to re-sign him and there is no guarantee some team like the Yankees or Orioles won't out bid you leaving you looking at Casey, Moss, etc starting at 1B in 2009......

I honestly believe that the Red Sox would only be involved to block the Yankees. Now, the thing is, if the Yankees for some reason go with the rumored possibility of resigning Giambi, they no longer need (or can afford) Tex. That also takes the Red Sox a step back in the fight for Tex, because there's no reason for them to give too much. That would leave the LA teams and the Mets as the primary favorites. In other words (from my perspective), BRING BACK THE STACHE!

Youkilis is only a year older, plays great D like Tex and both get on-base at similar clip. But, Youk would be easier to control and extend with a contract not to mention he is outslugging Tex to almost the tune of .07+

Red Sox would be much better off keeping a guy like Youkilis for so many reasons at this point. Like LJ, I only see interest for him to block the Yankees from bidding on him this offseason.

Why the hell would the Yankees re-sign Giambi?

Because he's hitting. And he'd only want like 5 million for 1 year.

And that would keep the Yankees from signing Teixeira?

Well, if they're gonna have Giambi, and with Cashman trying to CUT PAYROLL, as he has the past couple of years, odds are they wouldn't then blow 20 mil a year on Tex. Especially since hitting is not their biggest need.

No way in hell Giambi wants 5 mil.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

There have been rumors all over WFAN and elsewhere saying he'd take a HUGE paycut to stay with the Yankees...
