    Bill James on 60 Minutes

Overall, I thought the piece was interesting but could have been done better.

The quote “Baseball, with its unshaking reliance on superstition, believes that the Red Sox have found themselves one lucky charm” is idiotic on more levels then I canre to go into at the moment...

Other random things that made me cringe during the piece:
-- James never said that catchers, not pitchers, prevent stolen bases.

-- “James became the voice of God to baseball geeks everywhere.”

-- “Even he admits the numbers can never say it all.”

I think it tried to come off as a piece on Sabermetrics as opposed to what it really was, a piece on exactly who Bill James is as a person and what he is like. I mean, maybe I'm wrong, but I just think the piece went at what they were trying to do from a questionable angle.

I saw the promo for it but didn't feel like waiting until the end of the show. Doesn't sound like it was all that exciting if what you're saying was true. I do like that he's getting some national TV exposure here though. Bottom line is the man's changed the way many people look at statistics forever. Hell, Saber would be username-less if he didn't exist.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Bill James doesn't believe in the sacrifice bunt. That's when I start tuning out.

Bill James is a god to baseball geeks like me. Of course, his time was the 1980s. Even the BP is getting passed on certain things, like defensive statistics.

And catchers don't stop the running game. YOU stop the running game.
