Red Sox acquire Aarsma from White Sox

BOSTON -- The Red Sox obtained reliever David Aardsma from the Chicago White Sox for Willy Mota and Miguel Socolovich on Monday in a trade involving three right-handed pitchers.

Aardsma started last season with Chicago and went 2-1 with a 6.40 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 32 1/3 innings over 25 relief outings. In the second half of the season at Triple-A Charlotte, Aardsma, 26, was 3-2 with a 4.33 ERA with 15 saves in 18 appearances.

He's made 81 relief appearances with the White Sox, Chicago White Sox and San Francisco Giants, compiling a record of 6-1 with a 5.16 ERA.

Mota had 17 relief outings last year at Class-A Lowell, going 5-3 with a 2.60 ERA and one save. Socolovich pitched last year for two Class-A teams, Greenville and Lowell. He was 2-2 with a 6.65 ERA in 11 games with Greenville and 5-4 with a 3.56 ERA in 14 games with Lowell.

Well seems like a potential low risk, high reward type deal although I'm not expecting much improvement from him.
"They asked me if I wanted the ball in Game 6, and I said yes. I'll always say yes. That's what I did with Jack McKeon. I told him, 'Let me see how I feel tomorrow.' I went out, did a long toss, came in and said, 'I'll pitch, I want it, I want to do it.' And it ended up working out." -Josh Beckett

The kid does well when he doesn't try to get too cute. He has a very good fastball, but needs to either concentrate on it or develop an off-speed pitch. Fastball tops out about 99 and has some movement on it.
    I like this move.

it doesnt have a ton of movement on it. he really does need to develop a second pitch.

Eh, maybe they can make something useful out of him, but Don Cooper couldn't, and he's considered one of the best pitching coaches around.
