7/9/06: Sox trying to sweep Sox

And kind of funny, all-star snub Curt Schilling faces the White Sox, who are starting All-Star SP Jose Contreras (who had a worse ERA IIRC due to a bad June in spite of two great first months) and who are managed by the mastermind of the team, Ozzie Guillen

3-2 in the Top of the 9th. Schilling with six solid innings and Delcarmen shut the White Sox down for two. Contreras got out of a couple jams for a quality start and his RPs have kept the White Sox right in the thick of it.

Top of the 9th now, Jenks on in a non-save situation as the Sox are leading, 1 out, runner on first, Ortiz coming up

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.

Ortiz hits into the rare 5-3 double play with a runner on first. Ortiz hit into the short side of the shift, but Crede was right there to tag second and make the out. The extremely dangerous heart of the White Sox lineup (Sox hitting nemesis #2 Thome, Konerko, and Dye who has hurt the Sox this series) coming up, presumably against Papelbon

Dye is a BEAST. Papelbon sat down Thome and Konerko with relative ease for players like them. And Dye rockets a pitch out. Wow. 3-all, Contreras avoids his first loss again. Lucky.

MARK! I <3 Mark Loretta. And Kevin Youkilis. Even Fast Willie Harris!

    5-3!

And in the Bottom of the 11th, Javier Lopez comes on, walks Thome, Timlin coming in. They need to avoid trouble here

Did I say trouble? 1st and 3rd, no outs, King Dye up.

Bases Loaded, no outs, Crede up.

When up by one in extra innings, it doesn't get a whole lot worse than this.

In a series of unreal plays, the Sox give up the tying run when they should have both lost (on a sac fly when Gload didn't score and Dye was forced back, and Dye would have scored on the DP attempt) and won (if they appealed to third where Dye forgot to tag when going back to second, or arguably on Pierzynski's slide quite a bit away from the bag and he stood up almost the whole time).

    5-5, 12th inning

Crap, Pods with a bloop hit to get on. They may as well just put him on third now.

Ahem. How many games has Huston Street blown this year?

And Jermaine Dye makes me really sad, although seeing a 20 inning game would be insane

Street has 6 blown saves, which over half of them can be blamed on Macha for misusing him...i.e. too many days in a row or bringing him in too early.

White Sox just won it with a bases loaded single
