    Red Sox Draft Thread

This is more of an advance thread so I do not forget, but with some real talent being added by this regime recently through the draft (3 of the Top 5 Sox Prospects were added in the last two years in Hansen, Pedroia, and Ellsbury).

The Sox have the following picks

    27th overall
28th overall (from NY for Damon)
    40th overall (supp for Damon)
    44th overall (supp for Mueller)
    71st overall
83rd overall (from LA for Mueller)
    103rd overall

Those numbers may be off, but with 7 picks in the first three rounds, the Sox could get some nice talent out of this.

The Sox drafted 11 players in the top 120 (as rated by Baseball America), with 10 of them in the top 100.

Basically, people draft savvy (unlike myself) will notice that they took several players who fell. LaPorta and Anderson were expected to go very high in the draft, yet fell due to monetary demands. The Sox success in this draft may depend completely on their ability to sign players with leverage such as Anderson, Laporta, and Kalish. Their top pick (Place) shouldn't be a problem, and they may have to pay Bard a little more than his position, but he shouldn't be an issue either.

Basically, this could either be a pretty big bust of a draft or a really nice one depending on what the players demand in bonuses and if the Sox are willing to pay the premium.

I loved what the Sox did with their first 2 picks in the 1st round. Bard especially.
"They asked me if I wanted the ball in Game 6, and I said yes. I'll always say yes. That's what I did with Jack McKeon. I told him, 'Let me see how I feel tomorrow.' I went out, did a long toss, came in and said, 'I'll pitch, I want it, I want to do it.' And it ended up working out." -Josh Beckett

LaPorta is probably going back to school, I'd imagine Anderson is going to Cal now. I'm not Bard's biggest fan, but it is decent value at 28.

In the 48th round, they draft Papelbon's brother, who supposedly throws like Chad Bradford
