July is nearing its end, leaving August and September for players and teams to jockey for awards and playoff positioning. Why do fantasy commissioners continue to use wins as a major part of the fantasy point equation? Let alone the actual MLB, but I have more faith in fans being able to determine how best to evaluate a player's worth in competition. We're not keeping track of these stats using the newspaper, we have a bevy of metrics to look at and we continue to choose the wrong one, often giving the most weight of points to it.

George Steinbrenner died today. ESPN will more than likely be running a tribute all day to his passing. The word that has come up the most when people describe him is 'colorful'. Saying George Steinbrenner is colorful is like saying water is wet. He was twice banned from MLB, once for two years and once for life (he was reinstated 3 years later). In his first 17 years as owner, he hired and fired 17 managers. Shoot, he fired Billy Martin 5 times.
