Was it really necessary for the Bulls to throw in Bobby Portis in their Jabari Parker-for-Otto Porter swap with the Wizards? You would think the Wizards would have been fine with just dumping Porter's contract for Parker's expiring salary.

Also, I hate that the NBA has become where any decent young-ish player who is set to hit the free agent market is entitled to a max contract, so the Clippers have to trade Tobias Harris because they don't want to pay him the max because God forbid a team negotiates a reasonable extension with a decent, but not-elite player to build with instead of blindly chasing superstars or bust.

Yeah... the way they do contracts in the NBA is baffling. I wonder what would happen if they removed max contracts and all the exceptions they have for veteran's and stuff.

And the Lakers just gave up on their promising 21-year old big man Zubac because they didn't want to be forced into re-signing him to Jordan Clarkson money when he hits restricted free agency.

for a guy they could have easily had in the offseason (or a similar type of stretch big) instead of signing all the guys with zero range (rondo heroics aside)

You'd get some players making ARod-level contracts. You'd probably have even worse salaries if there wasn't some sort of 'ceiling'

Yeah, the Lakers deserved a better offseason, but I guess I'm just numb to all of Magic's failures when I feel complacent that at least he didn't sign Mozgov to a $64 million deal.
