    Re: 2013-2014 Season

He had to, considering that if he did anything less, he'd be crucified as a bigot.

Having said that, it was the right call. Considering that the comments were offensive to so many people, most of them either players, former players, and/or members of the media and the NBA's target market.

Personally, I didn't find the comments any more or less offensive than the hate spewed by Al Campanis or Marge Schott back in the day. You will still have racism in one form or another. It just won't go away.

Think they'll say anything about Jay Z sitting courtside with his "white people are evil" necklace that he's been wearing? What about the players dropping n-bombs all game long?

the double standard in social racism is a fucking joke. I'm not saying any of it is ok, but why do people excuse one group of people and crucify another group? In my opinion, you can't have it both ways, but society and the media almost always only focus on one aspect of this topic.

On topic of the playoffs.... why in the hell did it take Indiana SEVEN games to beat the sappy and crappy Hawks?

Safe to say Indy goes down like Brakos' mom on prom night in the next round?

Indiana had to come back from 3-1 to win it too, lol

Yeah I know. I don't get it. I had no delusions of Indy making it to the finals, although I am hopeful just because I can't stand Miami. Having that tough of a time vs Atlanta doesn't bode well.

i could definitely see washington steam rolling indy next round. hibbert wasnt even playing meaningful minutes that series, though that should change a bit with a more conventional match up with gortat and nene than antic and millsap. wall and beal are the best back court in basketball.

    Re: 2013-2014 Season

Indiana is the weakest 1 seed I've seen in quite a while. The East in general is an absolute joke. If Lebron went to a western conference team, the east would be completely irrelevant.

Would have liked to have seen OKC beat Memphis at full strength. Not having Randolph for game 7 hurt.

Nothing the Clippers do in the playoffs will overshadow their garbage owner until he's ousted from ownership. Hate to say it, but it's the truth. Happy to see them advance, though.

I don't think it's fair for people to look down on the Clippers as a whole because of some shit Sterling was caught saying in private. It wouldn't be fair even if Sterling said it to everyone in a press conference. It's really not fair to the players or the coaches or everyone else involved with them to look down on them because of their stupid owner.

Not that I disagree with you that it does overshadow it, I'm just saying it's not really fair to them.

You're absolutely right, it is unfair. It's just the reality of the situation. The Clippers have always been the NBA's second fiddle in LA, mainly because of Sterling. I am actually looking forward to seeing Sterling get voted out. I think the Clips have a nice window to become the good team in LA because of the Lakers' issues.

I just hope this situation doesn't force Doc, CP3, and the rest of the good players out of town...

    Re: 2013-2014 Season

I don't see how the NBA can force him to sell the team. Its a privately owned business. That business does work directly with the NBA but I just don't see how they can possibly force a sale. They also can't take it away from him, although if they felt they had to do something, they could perhaps tell him to keep the team and remove the team from the NBA; although I'm sure there's some sticky legal issues there as well, not to mention the major loss of revenue for the league and the city.

If the privately made comments on that tape had been said at an NBA function (league-sanctioned game, press conference, etc), I think they would really have more of a legal leg to stand on. Something said in private? I dunno, I just don't think they can force this. What they CAN do is simply try and strong-arm this guy out of the league, but legally force him to sell?

Guess we'll see, but I'm pretty sure he's not going to just fold up like a cheap suit just because of the actions of Silver. *shrug*

supposedly there's owner conduct in the NBA rules too, and Sterling can certainly be argued to have made the NBA look bad and that's what'll happen.

Which I'm sure Sterling will follow with a lawsuit himself.

My only issue with the whole thing is he said it all privately not knowing he was being taped.

I mean, I get expecting a level of decorum from league owners and conduct and what not, but is it really fair to expect that to reach into their private lives just because somebody chooses to secretly tape them and give the tape to TMZ?

I mean, I won't shed a tear for Sterling because he's a jerk for more reasons than just what he said, but I nevertheless don't get it.

NBA found their magic bullet to get rid of him. It was one of their worst kept secrets that Sterling was an asshole. You don't have to dig real deep to find shit on him. But the NBA didnt have the protection to get rid of him without major lawsuit, plus for most of the time the Clippers were a joke of a franchise... now they're actually competitive and they don't want their pimple to reveal itself.

Silver also got a chance to shine.

Well, everything in your first paragraph is true. But couldn't the NBA just as easily say, "well, we don't want to do business with you" and let him keep the Clippers, but essentially make them an independent team without a league? I can't imagine they'd be obligated to maintain business with a certain organization, considering contraction and expansion are allowed.
