Orioles Brian Matusz: real deal or not?

I'm not fond of young lefthanded pitchers, especially when Andrew Miller hasn't lived up to the hype, but I think the scouts got it right with Matusz and his 1.9 walk ratio during his final year in U. of San Diego was a good predictor of success in the minor league levels. Matusz can throw his fastball, curve, and slider all for strikes, so he doesn't need his best stuff to get through a game, and if he masters his change up, he can be as good as Cliff Lee. And unlike Miller, Matusz has no known mechanical issues.

Bottom line: The Rays really screwed up with their top selection in 2008.

I don't see him as a #1 pitcher, but maybe a solid #3 in the rotation that has potential for 15 wins.
