The Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles "are expected to seek trade partners for catcher Ramon Hernandez and enigmatic starter Daniel Cabrera."
Teams may wait to see if the Orioles non-tender Cabrera, but Hernandez is signed for $8 million in 2009 with an $8.5 million option or $1 million buyout for 2010. Hernandez's bat has declined to the point that he's posted a 714 and 715 OPS over the past two seasons, but he remains a durable, starting-caliber catcher and figures to draw some interest if the Orioles are willing to eat salary.
Houston and Detroit should be interested in Hernandez. Houston and Baltimore were involved in a trade last season for Miguel Tejada so they are familiar with each others systems. Detroit needs a catcher and Hernandez would benefit by hitting in that lineup. Maybe San Diego would take him back. Boston and the Yankees might even take a look. I see some team taking a chance on Cabrera as a reliever but I think his starting days are over.
