    Tejada put on waivers

Now I realize many GMs do this to gage interest in certain players. But what does this say about the future of their star SS? The White Sox put in a claim on Tejada but they did not work out a deal with the O's.

Sources say that the Orioles will keep Tejada for the rest of the year. But what will come of his future?

I posted this elsewhere, but the only reason this is news is b/c Miggy is known to be on the block. Hopefully he'll be traded in the offseason for some young talent because we're not going anywhere with him.

What kind of talent do you guys need? Also, who do you have to replace Miggy at SS?

Our biggest need is young positional talent. Our team consists mainly of old past-their-prime guys who are likely to get worse and our best positional talent is still years away in low A ball. I love Miggy, but he's basically worth more to us for what he can bring in return than for what he does on the field. Plus he's basically become a glorified singles hitter. As for replacing him, just find a replacement level SS w/ a good glove for the time being and improve the other gaping holes on the team.

I have to agree with CrimsonTribe as well. Despite the Orioles doing better than expected (at least by me), only 6 games under .500, Tejeda has more value as trade bait then trying to contend. What's up with the guy's power though? By my calculation he's only on pace for 19 doubles and 13 homers. This coming from a guy you could almost expect a 40 double, 30 homer season from a couple of years ago.

Yeah is power is all but gone. Good point. I have to agree as well. I know the feeling of seeing good talent go to waste. Miggy still is a great talent, but why pay for him when you are not contending? Try and get two or three guys that could pan out to give you close to the same value in the future.

For once, IMO, the Baltimore Oriole are doing something rather intelligent. They should put Tejada out there and see who nibbles and see what they can get.

He was hurt a large portion of the year...June 23-July 28th.

He still could have decent numbers, a little higher than what he has, but he'd be amazing if he had 30 homers or was on the threshold of a number like that.
