Orioles A Look At Corey Patterson

    Average- .280
    HR- 7
    RBI- 21
    Runs- 30
    SB- 23 (leads MLB)
    CS-1
    OBP- .329
    Slugging- .473
    OPS- .803
    K's- 29

I feel that, as an Oriole fan, he's been a pleasent surprise for us. I thought he was total crap for most of April, but Patterson has really turned it around since then. Without a terrible start, he could be hitting around .300 this year. I feel whats most impressive is that, through 1/3 of the season, he only has 29 K's. Sure, he hasn't started all of the games, but for a whole season, 100 K's is a great improvement over what Patterson is used to.

The Orioles have instilled in him that speed is his best asset, and instead of swinging for the fences like he did in April, he's now trying to get on base, and taking singles and doubles, where he used to strike out swinging. He also leads the majors in steals (23) and only caught once.

Thoughts and opinions from the rest of you about Patterson? Did anyone else expect him to improve like this?

Hey TomTom from what I've seen of him he's not bad. I don't really agree with you about not swinging for the fences. I remember seeing him K against Randy when Rj blazed heat high and Patterson took this long lazy HR cut. But he seems good so far.

I forget, was he traded to Baltimore last season or during this off-season? I thought he needed a change of scenery either way. So far it's looked like a good move for the O's.

I always thought he had the talent. Had plenty of opportunites to watch him over the years (I live in Chicago). He just needed someone to help him put it all together. I look forward to seeing Corey Patterson "Lou Brock" the Cubbies over the years!

Cubs traded Brock for nothing too, I think it's a pretty valid one.

Patterson was demoted midseason in 2005, big difference.
