There have been only preliminary talks between his representative and Braves officials, and it seems doubtful Atlanta would pay anywhere near the $25.5 million for three years that Hoffman's agent included in a recent counter-proposal to the Padres.

The Braves, however, could make a better offer than the two-year, $10 million proposal San Diego made him a few weeks ago, an offer Thurman said caused Hoffman to walk out of the dinner he was having with Padres executives.

Well if the Braves do get him, at least it won't turn out to be any worse than the Danny Kolb experiment.
