Braves Jeff Francoeur: Fluke or Rookie Wall?

Francoeur's first month+ he was hovering above a .400 BA and was an RBI machine. Now it seems he has either come back down to earth, or hit the rookie wall. I am not sure which yet.

Was he really as good as he was playing, or did he just have a hot streak and will fail to expectations?

    Thoughts.

I think it is a combination of both. Dale Murphy is the player Jeff is most often compared to, and Murph only had three (out of 18) seasons where his BA was .300 or above. I expect great power numbers and .280/.290 BA from Francoeur down the road.

He's going to either need to learn some plate discipline or get a higher BA than .280 or .290 to be a great player.

Yeah, no shit. Every rookie has their down time, except Pujols. He didn't have one badly and niether did Cabrera really. But 8 out of ten will suck sometime during the year.

The shit happens, probably applies here. Still doesn't take away what he can do defensively.

An Albert Pujols down year is hitting .290 with only 30 homeruns.

exactly the point we were trying to make if he played the whole year.

It's all Clint Barmes' fault for getting hurt and sparking a debate over RoY between a mediocre outfielder and a couple of 2nd half season callups.

Yeah, although he was at Coors and that's going to help offensively, but still, he would have played the whole season and his numbers would have pancaked Taveras twice over and still have enough syrup to drown Reefer.

I never heard of the man before, so excuse me if I am missing something but.. who is to say he wouldn't have hit the wall, as well? Francoeur was hitting over .400 for an extended period of time, and now look. His BA is likely to dip below .300 by the season's end.

I was just giving you some background on his season...that's all. Yes, he, too could have fallen off. We'll never know because he got hurt.
