    The McGriff of 2005

If Kyle Farnsworth keeps pitching like this, Braves general manager John Schuerholz might have a July trade acquisition to rival Fred McGriff.

McGriff was acquired from San Diego in 1993 to plug a hole at first base and in the middle of the Braves’ batting order. Farnsworth — so far — is plugging an even bigger hole in the Braves’ bullpen after being acquired from Detroit.

The Braves may finally have the closer to replace John Smoltz after the failures of Dan Kolb and, to a lesser degree, Chris Reitsma.

Reitsma can now pitch the eighth inning, where he seems to be more comfortable, and Farnsworth has been lights-out in the ninth. Farnsworth is 5-for-5 in save opportunities and hasn’t given up a run since early August.

Of course, it remains to be seen if Farnsworth can get it done in the postseason. His sore back also remains a concern.

But at least Farnsworth gives Braves fans hope for the playoffs, when Kolb is unlikely to even be on the roster.

Farnsworth is the man. I've said it all along and I will stick by it.

Let's hope they keep him around. You know, let Kolb and others guy, build a young pen around Farnsy

And Reitsma, he's a great set up man. Just doesn't look like he has the closer's mentality.

Farn has nasty stuff, and he's an intimidator out on the mound.

More importantly, Kyle is aggressive. Reitsma is cautious..he's a set up man. We need a Farnsworth/Rivera/Wagner attitude out there on the mound in the 9th.

Brower, that's who I'm thinking of. Dump his ass along with Kolb.

Brower was already DFA'd twice this season. I can't see why he's still on the team.

I'm sure every time I caught a braves game in which he came in, HE blew.

He sucks, flat out. His best pitch, the slider, has no bite and he has a tendency to hang it.

He was DFA'd once, and then the braves demoted him once with a guarantee he'd be called up for September.

I really don't like how Kingdom knows more about this team than I do.
