No surprise about that, well maybe about the Braves going for Soriano, but not the fact that John Schuerholz kept it so quiet. That's the reason I rarely trust any info I hear regarding rumors that supposedly come out of the Atlanta front office.... it's a vault there.
Interesting info though. I think the Braves were wise not to do that deal though. They would be paying too much for an overrated player in my opinion.

I hate that trade. Giles gets on base more, doesn't K as much, and is a much better fielder. Sosa is a complete beast. Soriano...meh. Mench? We have an excess of OFers.

That's why I thought it was weird. Atlanta surely didn't need either of those guys, in all respects to them for being quality guys, but at this point its irrelevant since Giles is a top notch 2B and I think the way the rookie trio of outfielders are going, a veteran is not needed.

I don't buy Soriano being effectively better defensively in the outfield opposed to 2B. He'd make a great DH for some American League team though!
