Braves Hanson with torn rotator cuff

Tommy Hanson was diagnosed Friday with a small undersurface rotator cuff tear in his shoulder.
It's not a serious injury and Hanson will not require surgery, but he'll need to rest for another few weeks and can be safely ruled out until mid-September. Hanson will look to get back to full health in time for the postseason. He has a 3.60 ERA and 142 strikeouts through 130 innings this year.
The Braves have a deep staff but they need this guy come October. He might not always go deep in the game but he can throw it past anyone giving you a chance to win. Hopefully he can get a couple of starts before October to get a rhythm.

Hopefully he can come back. Mike Minor has his moments, and potential, but Hanson is a better product right now. Another season in which a critical player for the Braves has a major injury.. Chipper was knocked out for the season last year.

Re: Hanson with torn rotator cuff

Tommy Hanson was pulled from an instructional league start after two innings Friday due to discomfort in his scapula.
The scapula is better known as the shoulder blade. This setback takes him out of the mix to start the regular season finale and presumably for the first round of the playoffs. The Braves are still hopeful that he'll be able to throw a side session in two days before making another instructional league start. It doesn't sound like he has been ruled out for the postseason, but the Braves obviously can't count on him.
If anything, maybe Hanson can help in the bullpen if the Braves do in fact make the playoffs. The Braves bullpen has the most games pitched in all of baseball and they could definitely use some new blood back there.
