I will be very surprised if Smoltz holds up over the course of the year. But at least you Braves fans have Tim Hudson in Georgia now. Year in, year out, the Braves find a way to win.

If Smoltz has a bad year it will be because of his health, not his play. This was only one game, the sky isn't falling.

How did he look in the spring? I really wasn't able to follow other teams much then. Obviously starting versus closing they'll be a drop off in velocity, but stuff wise was he similiar to last year?

    He looked great in ST.

He'll be fine, he only had one bad game. Not the end of the world.

I was just curious to see if age was catching up to his stuff. But if he looked fine in ST, he'll bounce back with his determined attitude.

He had a few good games in Spring, from what I saw (I can't watch all the Braves games down in New York). Hopefully, it was just one bad outing.

The bullpen has looked great in the first two reg. season games, imo.

Chipper came up huge today in extra innings with the HR.

No worries for Smoltz. First game back starting on Opening Day. He now has a 0-3 record on Opening Day so its nothing new. He will have 4 days of rest which he hasn't had the past couple of seasons. He had a great spring and still has a great fastball hitting 97 at times.

That is what I was getting to, I will be surprised if he can stand the rigors of starting again this late in his career, it's pretty unusual for a vet to leave the closer role and start again this late in his career.
