Thread: Jeff Francouer Called Up!

    Braves Jeff Francouer Called Up!

Braves purchased the contract of outfielder Jeff Francoeur from Double-A Mississippi.
Francoeur isn't ready now, but since the Triple-A outfielders have been disappointments, the Braves are calling him up anyway. The 21-year-old was hitting .275/.322/.487 with 13 HR, 62 RBI, 76/21 K/BB and 13 SB in 335 AB for Mississippi. Expect him to start versus lefties and sit against most righties while he spends the next couple of weeks in the majors. That shouldn't give him much fantasy value. Jul. 6 - 7:35 pm et

    This somewhat coincides with:

Braves placed outfielder Brian Jordan on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his left knee.
Not much of a loss. Jordan is still probably the Braves' best choice to play right field against lefties, but at least he won't take any playing time away from Ryan Langerhans versus righties while he's on the disabled list. Jeff Francoeur will fill in for him for the next couple of weeks. Jul. 6 - 7:37 pm et

Both per Rotoworld, and confirmed by ESPN.

He's not ready, but somehow, I don't care. This might be the best thing we've done all year.

    Tidbit from Rotoworld:

And the Braves just keep getting younger. The 21-year-old Francoeur, up to fill in for Brian Jordan, was hitting .275/.322/.487 with 13 HR, 62 RBI, 76/21 K/BB and 13 SB in 335 AB for Double-A Mississippi. The Braves have often hinted that they’d be open to rushing him, but despite his obvious talent, there’s little reason to think he’s ready now. The main problem is that he still chases too many bad pitches. He can drive fastballs to any area of the field and into the bleachers, but he figures to see a steady diet of breaking balls in the majors. Expect Francoeur to get most of his playing time against lefties. If he does well, then he could steal at-bats away from Ryan Langerhans versus righties.

LOL, yesterday in the 9th inning. Tied game, 1-1. Bases are loaded, only one out. Bobby lets Langerhans pinch hit for Jeff and Langy got booed. LOL, but then he got the single and the crowd gave him a standing O.

Francouer will be a force without a doubt (and will likely be a Phillies killer, knowing our luck). But I really think he needed to at least spend the rest of the season in the minors. His plate discipline still needs work and I just think it would be more beneficial to have him getting his AB's down there. He is polished enough to have success like he has already in the bigs but I am all for "Coddle Thy Minors."

    Good luck though Jeff.

I would have let him stay in AAA till the rosters expand, but if he can play now, then I'm all for it.

I agree, he went straight from AA to the MLB, but he with Brian Jordan hurt, he was our best OF in the farm to replace him.

    That's true. He's 1 for 6 now.
