    Braves Braves offer Damon contract

According to Leatherpants (Jim Bowden) via twitter:

    T. Kepner from NYTimes is reporting Braves offered one-year 4m deal for Damon with 2 of the 4m deferred:sounds to me like NYY should revisit
This is a ton less than the 13 million he was looking for. I think many teams may be willing to offer just as much. This could get even more interesting.

I like this. I heard about the offer a couple days ago, but I was terrified it was going to be way over on the # of years. Who knows where he ends up, but at least it isn't for more than a year

I heard about this last night. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. It would be nice to add Damon.

If you guys signed him at that price, that would be a steal.

...And I would resent you all.

It sure would. I won't hold my breath on this deal. Can only hope.

Makes me wonder how cheap guys like Johnny Gomes are going for now. I agree with you guys, this would be ridiculous.

Heyman reports on something other than the Mets for once:

still looks like an AL Central battle for damon. #braves apparently dont have the funds to compete. #tigers, #chisox
Sounds like the Braves are out of it. I am not surprised to see that not be something Damon signs for. Surely he will get at least $4M this year, right?

I'd rather have no Damon than overpay for him. Small market teams like the Braves have to spend their $ carefully.

I agree ATLien, but if he could be had for as cheap as they were offering; it would be amazing.

    Re: Braves offer Damon contract

Yeah, the Braves aren't what they once were, but you guys do have the flexibility to offer a fairly large contract when needed. Atlanta is definitely a large market, but the spending is more mid-market.

Atlanta is a bigger media market, yeah, but the budget is more along the lines of a small market team. That's what I meant.

The way I see it, you have only a handful of teams that can spend as much as they want and then you have the rest of the league. The Braves are in the latter group.
