Braves Braves to retire #31 in honor of Greg Maddux

    Braves retire Maddux's No. 31 - MLB - CBSSports.com Baseball

ATLANTA -- On the day the Atlanta Braves retired Greg Maddux's number, his former manager Bobby Cox led the praises.

"I get asked by managers and press people all the time, how good was he?" Cox said. "Was he the best pitcher I ever saw? Was he the smartest pitcher I ever saw? Was he the best competitor I ever saw? Was he the best teammate I ever saw?
"The answer is yes to all the above."
Maddux definitely deserves it. I can't wait for the Hall of Fame induction when the time comes.

Very deserving. Braves fans loved the fact that Maddux ended his jersey retirement speech with "Let's go out there and beat the Mets...like old times".

I wish I could of seen it or at least heard it. I'm not surprised at all. Everyone knows he is a hall of famer. First ballot IMO. I can't wait to get back to The Ted to see his number.
"For someone who was never meant for this world, I must confess I'm suddenly having a hard time leaving it. Of course, they say every atom in our bodies was once part of a star. Maybe I'm not leaving... maybe I'm going home."
