It would be nice for the future HOFers to end with the team he really made his name with. I do however agree that most fans would be intrigued about the Braves acquiring him for a short period of time , but then that would wear off and that would leave the Braves fans to enjoy the acquistion for the season.

If Jake Peavy was nearing the end of his illustrious career and the Padres were fighting for last place, he'd deserve better, too, but that doesn't mean I'd want him to be traded to the East Coast, and I'm not saying that because as a Dodger fan it's fine by me that he is wasted by the Padres, but rather, it'd be good for Padres history that Peavy retires in a Padre uniform. Why wouldn't a HOF'er Maddux retiring in a Padre uniform be good for Padres history, too?

If Greg Maddux spent his entire career as a Padre as Jake would have under this scenario your comparison would hold water.

My point is that you have a HOF'er who can put the finishing touches on his career as a Padre. I should add that he's known as a great mentor to young pitchers. Wouldn't you want to keep him around instead of letting him groom some future All-Star pitchers in Atlanta?

If Maddux does return, are teh Braves going to bring back Mazzone, Avery, and the rest of the gang from the hay days of the 90's? hahahaha..... j/k. I am a huge Maddux fan.

If Maddux was on the Giants, I wouldn't want to see him leave but would definitely understand him being traded to a contender like Braves could be. Sure he's a great mentor but him being traded, getting something in return and see Maddux back with Glavine and Smoltz chasing down another divisional title would be worth it. I wouldn't be offended if he didn't want to end his career on a last place team. He returned to Chicago, why not Atlanta?

I don't remember the exact quote but Greg Maddux once said he doesn't need to be on a winning team to enjoy himself playing the game. He said it's an added bonus, but he can have fun playing on a non-contender just as much as a contender.

    Re: Could Maddux Return?

Again, this is all hypothetical. Maddux has not asked for a trade and as far as I know the Padres aren't even shopping him. This all came from an article in the SD Union-Tribune and Peavy's quote got my mind racing. If the Padres can get someone for a HOF who is probably in his last season, they would be fools not to. Fans all around can appreciate that. I would love to see that team be the Braves because its a great story line instead of steroids, Yankees and Red Sox!

    I agree.

I just figured I'd throw that out there.

    Re: Could Maddux Return?

Could we see Greg Maddux in a Braves uniform again after the All-Star break? It didn't necessarily mean anything, but when I was asking some of the team's management and players if they felt they were seeing Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz in uniform together for one last time last week, I kept getting the, "You never know what might happen" response. Like I said, this didn't exactly mean anything. But at the same time, it provided the reminder that you should never say never. If the Braves found a way to trade for Maddux, they would be doing so because they felt he could help and not just to create a nice story.
