    Braves take Mondesi off roster

    Washington — Raul Mondesi was officially designated for assignment Tuesday, clearing a roster spot for the Braves to activate pitcher Mike Hampton from the disabled list.

    Mondesi returned to his native Dominican Republic after he was told Sunday that he was no longer in the Braves' plans and may decide to retire.
