Braves at the plate: Atlanta scored its first three runs in the first inning. Jeff Francoeur had an RBI double and Andruw Jones hit a two-run home run. In the top of the seventh inning, Carlos Mendez hit a two-run single.

Nationals at the plate: Austin Kearns made it a 3-1 game in the first inning, when he doubled to right field to drive in Cristian Guzman. Felipe Lopez made it a one-run game with a home run in the fifth inning. Ryan Zimmerman had an RBI groundout in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Nationals pounded out five hits in their three-run ninth, capped by a walk-off walk by Chris Snelling.

Braves on the mound: Left-hander Mark Redman pitched five innings and gave up two runs on eight hits. Rafael Soriano pitched one shutout inning, while Tyler Yates gave up a run in the seventh inning. Jonathan Johnson faltered in the ninth, allowing three runs on five hits for the loss.

Nationals on the mound: Right-hander Tim Redding pitched three innings and gave up three runs on six hits. He threw 67 pitches and 41 of them were for strikes. Jason Bergmann gave up two runs in 3 2/3 innings.

Grapefruit League records: Braves 11-8-1; Nationals 8-12-1.

Up next: The Braves return to Lake Buena Vista, Fla., to play the Mets on Thursday at 1:05 p.m. ET. Atlanta right-hander Kyle Davies will face Mets right-hander Aaron Sele.

The Nationals travel to Kissimmee, Fla., to play the Astros on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. ET. Washington right-hander Jerome Williams will face Houston left-hander Nate Robertson.
