Braves at the plate: Matt Diaz's RBI double gave the Braves the lead, and T.J. Bohn's two-run double stretched the advantage out in a five-run Braves eighth. Ryan Langerhans added two singles.

Cardinals at the plate: Brendan Ryan singled and had a two-run double to put the Cards ahead, 3-0. Aaron Miles' RBI single got the Redbirds on the board. Chris Duncan reached base on a walk, an error and a bloop double into center field, and he stole a base.

Braves on the mound: Kyle Davies, competing for a rotation spot, pitched four shutout innings with only two hits. But he didn't strike out a batter, and he issued three walks. Bob Wickman allowed two base hits but no runs in one inning. Mike Gonzalez was touched for three runs in an inning.

Cardinals on the mound: Ace Chris Carpenter turned in his best performance of the spring to date, blitzing through 4 2/3 innings. Carpenter allowed two hits and no walks, struck out one and got 12 of his 14 outs on the ground. Kelvin Jimenez gave up an unearned run, his first run allowed this spring, but no hits.

Grapefruit League records: Braves 8-2; Cardinals 7-4.

Up next: It's a rematch on Monday at Roger Dean Stadium. The Cards and Braves again face off at 1:05 p.m. ET. John Smoltz will start for Atlanta, with Braden Looper toeing the rubber for St. Louis.
