Braves add LHSP Redman to MLC

Braves signed LHP Mark Redman to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Jason Marquis gets $21 million and a 2006 All-Star has to settle for a minor league deal in March. Of course, Redman had little business going to the All-Star Game, but he can still be a decent fourth or fifth starter. The Braves will have him battle Kyle Davies and Lance Cormier for the two openings in their rotation with Mike Hampton out. Expect him to win one of the jobs -- probably over Cormier -- and maybe amass a little fantasy value in the early going, at least in 4x4 leagues

Good for us. Like Rotoworld says, Redman isn't much of an all-star, but he's worth the MLC. Hopefully he will indeed beat out Cormier for the spot.

Honestly, I feel kind of bad for Redman given the market for 4th/5th starters. Granted Redman is below a lot of the big ticket guys in terms of talent, but he's not a terrible option to consider for a 5th starter if he can manage a decent season like he has before. For him to get a minor league contract is a bit surprising.

I like this pickup. He looked good in his first outing so it's already looking like he will beat out Lance.
