Braves at the plate: Atlanta took a 7-6 lead in the fifth inning, when Yunel Escobar and Ryan Langerhans hit consecutive home runs against reliever Emiliano Fruto. The Braves added to their lead when Corky Miller hit a two-run home run off right-hander Jermaine Van Buren in the top of the seventh inning. Second baseman Kelly Johnson had two hits and scored three runs. Left fielder Willie Harris had two hits and two RBIs.

Nationals at the plate: In his first game back after seeing his wife give birth to a baby girl, catcher Brian Schneider drove in four runs, including a two-run homer against left-hander Macay McBride in the bottom of the third inning. First baseman Travis Lee played in his first Spring Training game of 2007 and drove in two runs with a double down the first-base line.

Braves on the mound: Right-hander Kyle Davies started the game and pitched two innings while giving up two runs. Macay McBride gave up four runs in two innings.

Nationals on the mound: Right-hander Colby Lewis faced 13 batters and four of them scored. Left-hander Chris Michalak gave up an unearned run in 1 1/3 innings. Fruto continues to struggle, giving up two runs in 1 2/3 innings.

Grapefruit League records: Braves 5-1; Nationals 1-5.

Up next: The Braves travel to Lakeland, Fla., to face the Tigers on Wednesday at 1:05 p.m. ET. Atlanta right-hander John Smoltz will face Detroit right-hander Jeremy Bonderman.

The Nationals travel to Kissimmee, Fla., on Wednesday at 1:05 p.m. to face the Astros. Washington's Shawn Hill will face Houston right-hander Roy Oswalt.
