    Smoltz also back in '07

One day after giving closer Bob Wickman a one-year contract extension, Schuerholz announced that the club has exercised the $8 million option that guarantees John Smoltz's return to Atlanta.

I'm glad JS is taking a proactive approach for the first time in recent memory.

I was hoping the Braves wouldn't pick up his option and the Cards sign him to a two year deal. He would fair well in St. Louis.

I'm glad to see that. I hate it when players who have spent their entire career's with 1 organization go to another one. I few years ago I thought the trio of Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz was going to retire together as Braves.

Yeah, I'm glad he did. It would've been hard watching Smoltz pitch against us for a change. Lots of the players have been with Smoltz since they started their career (C.Jones, A.Jones, M.Giles, etc.)

Maddux started his career in Chicago, so I wasn't "hurt" or "offended" when he decided to come home. Glavine, however, was a bastard. I don't buy this "union obligations" bullshit. He left the Braves to go to the Mets for an option year and a million dollars. Motherf*cker.

I'm sorry you're so mad. Not that I can do anything about it.

I've heard rumblings that Tom Glavine wants to retire as a Brave. I guess that means he'd give up his option in NYC and come "home" for a discount?
I am pleased to see that Smoltz will be with the team again next year. He'll give them some leadership on the field and in the clubhouse. Its always nice to have experience to learn from as a young player and the Braves have more than their share of young pitchers.
Smoltz and Wickman will be good resources for the young guys.

Glavine's option is a team option, and I don't think he'll be back. While I still like him, I don't want him back.

Okay then. I wouldn't mind if he came back. But I'd rather Greg Maddux came back. I think that ain't happening.
