Conor Jackson traded to Oakland

PHOENIX (AP)—The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Tuesday they have traded outfielder Conor Jackson(notes) to the Oakland Athletics for minor league right-handed pitcher Sam Demel.

I thought for sure Conor would develop into one of the best hitters by now. I can't like James Loney's chances for a turnaround.

Seems like the perfect kind of player for Beane to target. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts to put it together (somewhat.) He just entered his prime, he still posts a great K to BB, and a change of scenery/hitting coaches might just be what he needs.

As far as I knew he was only dealing with hamstring issues this year. I think it's a good deal for both. Arizona needs bullpen help and Demel could help now (or try to). I'm sure Jackson will get time at OF, 1B, and DH...not sure he'll start though.

This deal was all about cutting payroll in Arizona. Get ready to see more deals made. Now to Demel, he looks like the closer of the future for Arizona. He is pitching well this season. I like the deal for the DBacks.

Apparently, Jackson will be the starting LF according to the A's manager.

As far as Demel closing, he closed in the low minors, but not much in AAA. Anything's possible, but I would think they'll just stick him in the pen for now.
