D'Backs GM Meets With Webb, Brynes

The Arizona Republic reports Diamondbacks general manager Josh Byrnes recently met with right-hander Brandon Webb, who didn't pitch after opening day because of a shoulder injury that eventually required surgery.

The team has an $8.5 million option on Webb for 2010, and managing general partner Ken Kendrick says Arizona plans to exercise the option. According to the newspaper, the team is interested in adding an option for 2011, but Webb says he isn't interested in that at this time.

If Webb proves he is healthy in 2010, he could be in for a bigger payday than he would with a one-year extension.

Meanwhile, Byrnes and manager A.J. Hinch met with outfielder Eric Byrnes to discuss his future with the team, according to the Diamondbacks' Web site. Eric Byrnes signed a three-year, $30 million contract extension in August 2007 but has been injured much of the past two seasons.

The Web site speculates the Diamondbacks will trade Byrnes, release him or allow him to compete for a spot in what will be a crowded outfield in 2010.
Hell yeah you trade Brynes! Might as well get something for him. Eric has been nothing but a disappointment since his MVP type season. He would make a good 4th OFer somewhere or maybe even a start for one of the lesser teams that are weak in that area. Of course the Backs would have to eat some salary but its better than eating the entire thing and getting nothing in return. Maybe he could take Baldelli's role on that Boston roster.

Webb is definitely worth taking a risk on for the price.

Really? Eric Byrnes? Does he even have any trade value at all? Could they even get a mop up reliever for him at this point?

Yes really. There were trade talks last offseason after a terrible, injury plagued year. The Red Sox and Tigers both made offers. Same story coming into this offseason for a different injury. Past two seasons have been flukes and GMs know this. At a discount price, teams will look at Byrnes. Only real bump in the road is his no-trade clause which I don't see being a problem since its obvious he is not wanted.

Hell no! Giants are already overpaying for Rowand and have plenty of 4th OFers to choose from.

I think they'll end up cutting him loose.
