Chris Young and the Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to a five-year contract extension through 2013, the East Valley Tribune reported Monday.

The contract is near the six-year, $31 million extension shortstop Troy Tulowitzki signed with the Colorado Rockies on Jan. 23, a league source told the Tribune. Young's contract buys out all of his arbitration years and includes a team option on a year of free agency, the Tribune reported.

The Diamondbacks have already locked up several of their young players, including starters Brandon Webb and Dan Haren, outfielder Eric Byrnes and catcher Chris Snyder, who are all under contract through 2010.
Webb, Haren, Byrnes and now Young makes for a good young core for the future. Young is an all or nothing hitter who had 32 HRs last year and 3 already this year in six games. He's good in CF and with Justin Upton and Stephen Drew getting better, this team will be good for a long time. This is a deal that will save them money while keeping their young guys happy.
