    Is There Any Chance.....

that Eric Byrnes wins the NL MVP? He is the heart and soul of this team and leads the team in BA, RBI, hits, runs, SBs, total bases and is tied for doubles and triples. He also plays stellar defense and has lead this team to first place in the West, one of the best divisions in baseball. Byrnes has filled the shoes of Luis Gonzalez as team leader and has done a great job. I would throw some votes his way if I were voting. This guy is an electric player.

    Good? Yes. MVP? No.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

If Az wins the division....I say he should win it.

The very definition of "Most Valuable Player" is the guy who's most valuable to his team.

While there is not one player who can single handedly win games, the concept of the award is to find the guy who comes closest to doing so.

Byrnes has done that for Arizona.

    MVP of the division yes.

League? Not really. I don't see a Met, I don't know who's taking the Central, but I doubt he garners more than 3rd place.

So who has carried the Mets, then?

Who else is more responsible for his team's success than Byrnes?

David Wright has put up better numbers than Eric Byrnes has, so Wright has the advantage there.

If I had to pick any player from the Dbacks whom I'd want on my team, it's Brandon Webb.

But...can you say the Mets wouldn't be where they are without Wright more than you can say the D-Backs are where they are without Byrnes?

I mean...that is the entire definition of "MVP"

Leo makes a point here because just like he said the Mets would probably be in the same spot maybe a couple less games won but the Diamondbacks wouldn't be where they are now by a long shot.

I'll admit no. But I don't think Byrnes is more valuable to the Dbacks than Brandon Webb is. Webb is almost an automatic win for them.

    Webb wasn't that automatic tonight

Maybe not tonight but everyone has an off night and Brandon doesn't have very many of those but Webb does really mean more to that franchise then Byrnes does.

    Re: Is There Any Chance.....

I don't think pitchers should be awarded MVPs unless they have an ultra exceptional year...of which Webb has not.

The concept of the MVP is to determine who's been more important to his team's success than anyone else.

While Webb has been great for the Snakes, he hasn't been so great as to overcome the concept of the fact that he only hleps them one every five games.

If any pitcher wins MVP it should be Jake Peavy, considering how bad the Padres offense has been and all.

That being said, Eric Byrnes is the one faucet of the Snakes of offense that has been consistently good all season long.

    Re: Is There Any Chance.....

Even if the Dbacks miss the playoffs by just a couple of games, Byrnes is the main reason the Dbacks were in it at all. He leads this team in almost everything. He is a great clubhouse guy plays balls out which rubs off on the other guys. Nobody on any of the contenders have a real standout MVP besides Pujols. The Mets have Beltran and Wright. The Brewers have an array of guys like Fielder, Hardy, Braun. The Cubs have a lot too. If I had to pick a player from the Dbacks to start a team, of course it would be Webb but that's because great pitchers are hard to find. Pitchers shouldn't win MVP unless they have a Denny McClain type year. N
