2006 first-round pick Max Scherzer took a four-year, $4.3 million contract from the Diamondbacks prior to Wednesday night's deadline.

Bonuses could make the major league deal worth as much as $6 million. The Diamondbacks plan to use Scherzer as a starter for now. It's possible that he'll eventually head to the pen, where he'd have closer potential.

Had me fooled, I figured he'd jump back to the draft and take his chances. Big deal for the DBacks, as he's a top pitching talent that immediately takes over as their #1 pitching spect.
