Baseball Slant Strike3Forums.com: What does the server move mean for you?

As you probably know, S3F was down for 36 hours as we moved servers, so what does that mean for you? To be honest, your experience should not change for the worse but for the better, continue reading below to see why.

    S3F: April 2005 - April 2009

From the start of S3F to just a couple of days ago, S3F was hosted on a server with thenflforums.com. While this was a great opportunity for us to grow and establish the site, it wasn't ideal for either site as we had to share server resources and if one went down, sometimes the other went down too as the crash was that massive. As I was not paying for the server, I sometimes had difficulty getting the access I needed, resulting in my pestering someone to pester someone else; again, it wasn't ideal. I can not state though how much you should be appreciatve that we did share a server with thenflforums.com as their owner, Meck77, gave this forum the support it needed to grow and was kind enough to sell it to me. We wouldn't be here today if we had started out on our own.

    S3F: Now
S3F has undergone some changes over the past couple of weeks. Noteably:

    • Porter99 and Kingdom_of_Zito were brought on to share in the administrative duties with redsrbetter and myself. With this team, I am confident that we can deliver a forum that not only gives you the content you desire but the atmosphere that you want as well. The four of us like for the forums to be a truly fun experience, full of posts that will challenge you, make you laugh, and induce good times all around; I know we will deliver this.
    • The site was redesigned and will see styles created for all teams within the next few weeks.
    • Several new features have been added, all major ones will be covered in detail later.
    • We have taken on a new slogan that I believe represents this entire forum: "Baseball Is Our Passion."
    • And we're not done yet, there is more to come, much more.

Set Your Phasers To The Future
Where will go? I don't know because we will take this site in the direction that you want to see it go in. What I do know is that we can't do it without you though. So how can you help? There are many ways for you to help the forums out:

    • Share our threads, articles, sim leagues, anything wherever you can. Whether you do it by email, IM, text, your Facebook wall... whatever, spread the word.
    • Don't be a one forum guy. Trust me, no one more than myself would like to have 30 or 40 fans of each team on each team's forum. A great way you can help out though is to not be shy to venture out of your team's forum. S3F was created for discussion for all fans, for fans who want to discuss the game as a whole and not just one team exclusively. So help to update other forums with interesting articles and news whenever you can, it really adds to the forums' overall discussion and encourages others to post through out all team forums.
    • Have fun. One of the greatest strengths to this site is the communuity that has been built and developed over the years. S3F works when we're having fun: laughing about the game threads banter or Joe Morgan bashing, posting snarky quips, talking about the S3F player curse. There are plenty of sites for dead serious discussion and while we can get just as serious, I always appreciate how light spirited some of the conversation is and that is what makes this site a fun one to return to.

And if you can afford to, consider an S3F premium account. All cash generated goes to paying for our monthly server bill and thus will ensure the viability of the site. If you can't contibute financially, helping to spread the url online of the forums and threads is the next best thing you can do. Tell all your friends about us or anyone who you know that likes baseball, I'll even create some new flyers if there is a demand for them. The more traffic we get, the higher potential we will see for our ad revenue and the higher the chance we have to land new members who might signup with premium accounts who might refer friends and so the cycle would continue. Ultimately the goal is to see the forums coming out ahead at the end of the year so we can take whatever is left over and invest in the forum, be it new functionality or advertising on other sites.

Lastly, I sincerely appreciate your patience while this move took place. Believe me, the time of the move was not ideal and I had not even intended to do the move myself, but my hand was forced with a deadline coming up so I took action when I needed to. Anticipated downtime should be very minimal throughout the season.

If you made some flyers I would definitely advertise them around my facebook, and my blog.

Adding Porter99 and Kingdom of Zito is like adding Dean Portman and Fulton Reed. Oh yeah.

    Not at first no.

They picked him up from the alley blowing out windows. He was in the first one, yes...but he was not part of the original district 5 team.

Bart: Hey, Lis, look! They're adding a new character to Itchy &
    Scratchy! [reads] Poochie the dog?!
Lisa: [unfooled] Adding a new character is often a desperate attempt to
    boost low ratings.
Roy: Yo, yo! How's it hangin' everybody!
    Marge: Morning, Roy!
    Homer: Yeah, hi, Roy.
